Today some friends invited us over for brunch, and since my grandma taught me to never show up empty-handed when I’m invited for a meal at someone’s home, I decided to make some apple crisp. You’ll find that making this recipe is the best air freshener you could have, it filled my place with that lovely smell of apples and cinnamon… simply delicious!
6 small apples (I used gala apples), peeled and sliced
The juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 generous sprinkle of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup oats
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup brown sugar
Another generous sprinkle of ground cinnamon
100 grams butter
Preheat the oven to 350. Put the apples, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla in a bowl and mix well to combine and coat the apples. In a separate bowl mix the rest of the ingredients: oats, flour, walnuts, sugar and cinnamon, incorporating the butter cut into pieces last, then mix with a fork until crumbly and combined. Spray an oven-proof container with some cooking spray, then add the apples and cover with the oats mix. Bake covered for approximately 45 minutes. Serve warm with some vanilla ice cream.
